ドラマでもまぁまぁ出てくる"Unless"について調べてみる。

A unless B BじゃなければAになる

Grammer

except if ~/ if ... notと同じ意味 except if ~ / if ... not と違う点は Unlessは後に続く文を強調する。

Usage

• I won't be able to understand unless you talk slowly.
• Unless I wake up right now, I'll be late.
• Unless you have a car, it's difficult to get there.

Appendix

as long as / so long as / provided (that) / providing (that)

上記の後に続く文で条件を表す

Usage

• I don't mind walking home as long as it isn't raining.
• I'm playing baseball providing it doesn't rain.

Conclusion
